With the NFL draft fast approaching I've been wondering about what the heck my beloved Dallas Cowboys are going to do come draft day. With Tony Romo's injury/injuries last year it was apparent that they need a strong backup quarterback. I was hopeful that they might be able to pick someone up through free agency or a trade but that doesn't look like that's going to happen. So it looks as though the Cowboys may resort to the draft.
Personally though, in the first round with the fourth overall pick, I would grab the best available player. They could bolster up the defensive line with Joey Bosa. He was a stud at Ohio State and I think he'd make a great addition to the D-Line.
Speaking of stud. There are also two superb running backs that may also be available to the Cowboys in the first round. Derrick Henry from Alabama and Ezekiel Elliot from Ohio State. Since the departure of Demarco Murray I think the Cowboys could also use a running back and either of these guys would be absolutley awesome. If anyone of these three are available in the first round I would grab them without hesitiation . In the unlikely event that two or all three are available, then the Cowboys will have a very difficult decision to make.
As for quarterback, I would wait to the later rounds. In all likelihood Carson Wentz, Jared Goff and Paxton Lynch will be gone by then. If not, perhaps grab one of them. The Cowboys have also been looking at Christian Hackenburg from Penn State, Dak Prescott from Mississippi State, Jacoby Brisset from North Carolina State and from Jerry Jones' alma mater of Arkansa, Brandon Allen. All four will likely be available in the later rounds and may make fine additions to the quarterbacking corps. But, admittedly, I don't know much about any one of them. Nonetheless, I'm still holding out that they will find a suitable backup through free agency or through a trade because I think they need an NFL experienced quarterback if Tony Romo should go done again for any length of time. We don't want a repeat of last year.
So Jerry, if you're listening, that's my two cents worth!
